A Wander Down Memory Lane

'We take photos as a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone.'
I love this so much.

I never want to forget anything and because of that I take ALOT pictures. I love that a picture can take you back to a time that is other wise completely forgotten and over.

There are some pictures that I look at and I remember so much, the conversations, what the weather was like, what I was thinking about when the picture was taken and then there are the pictures that I just honestly can not remember taking, let alone why I was pulling that face or doing that pose.

So I decided I wanted to share with you some of moments that have been forgotten.

Here is my throw back Thursday.

This was taken on an adventure day with my best friend in York. I don't know why I am posing like this, but clearly I thought I was the bees. I was about 21 here I think.

This was the day the queen came to town and it poured down and Andrew gave me his socks!
What a gent!

I can't remember when this was but this was in Edinburgh for my sisters hen party. I was wearing flared jeans. I don't think I have worn flared jeans since I was 18.

I was about 20 here and these were the days when I decided I wanted my hair to be lighter and I went this ginger/green colour.
I liked it at the time.
Now, not really a strong look.

Ahhhhh, the last bank holiday of the summer a few years ago. Andrew and I went to a local farm and we found ourselves separated and stuck due to these viscous ducks.
This was a lot more traumatic that it looks.

I think I was 19 in this picture and this was taken on a road trip to Blackpool to see Elliot Minor. I mean who even are Elliot Minor.

This is one of my favourite pictures. This was taken on one of the first dates that Andrew and I went on. I remember us doing so many takes of this shot and then eating ice cream.

This was the sunset in Whitby the day Andrew told me he loved me. Whitby will forever be one of my favourite places.

Last year Andrew took me to Marsden Rock. This place is amazing but holds so many memories for him from his childhood. We had such a fun day and it is so beautiful there.

Aged 17 and my first FB profile picture! WOW.

I can not finish this post with out putting in a more recent throw back. If I could go back to any day and re do it all over again, I would definitely say Saturday 11th July 2015. It was a pretty special one.

I had so much fun looking back over old pictures, when you have chance definitely go and do it.
Re live the moments that have been forgotten.

A date every month for a whole year! #1

Andrew and I were so over whelmed with the generosity of so many people at our wedding. We received so many gifts and cards that we honestly spent hours opening them and our house was like a card shop.

One gift that we received was from some of our closest friends. They organised for us a date every month for a whole year and it came all bundled up in a basket like this.

We were so excited for this gift and as soon as August came we opened our first date. August was so busy for us and passed by in no time and we didn't get chance to cash in on that date, but we decided to hold on to it and use it next August.

Tuesday 1st September came and we were so keen to find out what September had in store for us and oh my, it did not disappoint.

This months date was a voucher for Nando's. Man, my friends know us well. We love Nando's and i have honestly been going on at Andrew none stop for the last few weeks about NEEDING a cheeky Nando's. Now we had no excuse.

Having been ill all weekend and not feeling great Andrew took an impromptu day off. We started the day by doing nothing but in a bid to get out the house an feel more human again we decided to head to Nando's.

Now we both had not eaten all day.
It was now 3pm.
We were ready for a feast.

*Carb overload or what*

*My eyes were definitely too big for my belly*

I literally loved that I got to spend this impromptu day off with my favourite, we spent the time planning exciting new years eve adventures.
It definitely did make me feel better.

So, thank you beautiful friends. We loved our first date.
Can't wait for next month already.

Love Colleen & Andrew

Barry M Quick Dry Nail Varnish. Pastel Colours in Autumn?

Autumn is here and the way the temperature is going winter is just around the corner. I mean I have just been told that Christmas is less than 100 days. What!

Now I love autumn a lot, so much so I wrote a whole post on all the things I love about it here. When autumn arrives it’s the time where all the bright colours of the summer are swapped for the autumnal colours of the ever changing seasons around us, but we don’t just do this with our clothes we do this with our make up and with our nail varnishes. In the summer I will quite happily wear coral and pinks lipsticks but in the autumn I am all about the berry tones.

Now the truth is I am more than happy to embrace the colour changes when it comes to make up and clothes but I just can’t quite bring myself to put away the pastel nail varnishes of the summer away.

I mean…
1.       I don’t think I suit dark nail varnish! (Can you not suit dark nail varnish?!?!?)
2.       I have a blue topaz engagement ring so sometimes certain colours don’t quite go. (Didn’t think about that did we)
3.       For me, wearing darker clothes, I like to keep my nails bright to add some colour in my life.

So a few weeks ago when I saw that Barry M had an amazing pastel range of  'Speedy' quick dry nail varnish I knew I needed to get my hands on them.  I am all about the ‘quick dry.'

I instantly fell in love with the shade ‘Lap of Honour’ which is a beautiful mint green colour and shade ‘Pole Position’ which is the lilac colour.

Now I am sucker for packaging so when I saw these amazing chequered lids for the pots I was instantly sold.

These nail varnishes have the brand new flat brush and all though I wasn't expecting much it did make a difference.

One thing with the nail varnish is that they are right it does only take two coats but the two coats have to be thick or it just won't cover.

Here are my nails after just one 'normal' coat.

Now, I am pretty confident at putting on nail varnish (I have worn it every day since I was 16) so after this first coat I went straight in with quite a thick second coat and I loved the final results.

So some people have probably put away those pastel nail varnish for the winter. I will definitely be keeping them out, as for me I just love the bright colours against the contrast of the darker colours we are now all choosing to wear.

So will you be embracing the pastel coloured nails this Autumn & winter.

Love Leeny.

Welcome back Autumn.

It’s official.

All the summer clothes have been packed away and that drawer of snuggly jumpers and cardigans have been opened.

As I write this post I am currently sat on the sofa wrapped up in the fluffiest blanket ever, drinking Salted Caramel tea and watching Great British Bake Off with Andrew.

My friend just recently returned from America and came round with a TON of gifts including Banana Nut Bread wax cubes for an oil burner.

Oh my.

If you could smell my house now, it smells like a bakery.
We have cookie dough in the kitchen, salted caramel and this Banana thing in the living room. This to me is what autumn smells like.

Ahhhhhhhh summer you were so good to me, really good to me but autumn I welcome you with open arms. Here are the many reasons why I am so excited for you…

Conker Picking
New boots shopping
Autumn walks
Berry tone lipsticks
Sunglasses and Scarves because its cold but still sunny
Candles
Bonfire Night
Fairy lights
Hot spiced apple from Costa
Christmas planning and prep
Crunchy leaves
Fluffy blankets
Homemade cookies and Netflix
Hot Chocolate and marshmallows
The colours

I JUST LOVE AUTUMN.

So what are you all looking forward to this autumn?

My current loves... #1

Well hello and welcome to my first current loves.

I have what you would call a very addicted personality. I mean if I find something I love you can be sure I will eat it, listen to it, wear it, use it not stop until I have just had enough of it. Anyone else with me on this?? I mean I can’t be the only one who has had ‘A whole new world’ from Aladdin on repeat for three weeks, or even eaten poached egg on toast for my lunch every day for over a week. Can I? Maybe I am.

So this post is all about sharing with you my current obsessions, all the things that I just can not live with out at the moment. Who knows by next week it could be all different.

So here we go...
*I will try and link as many of the products as I can.

*So just a few things then. :)

1. Black and White over sized top.
I am in love with this top. It cost me £7 from Primark a week and a half ago and I have worn it non stop (I have washed it don't worry.) I love that it has 3/4 length sleeves and bat wings. It is so comfy and I think a must for the transition into autumn. Perfect with some skinny jeans and cute shoes.

I received this nail varnish as part of a pack for my birthday and honestly it has made a huge difference to the staying power of my varnish. My nail varnish always chips but when I add this it definitely lasts longer and looks more finished. It also dries super fast. Nothing makes me more angry than a top coat that takes forever to dry and before you realise it there are chips and marks in the nail varnish. So good job nails inc. When it comes to re buying this once it has finished I am not to sure. I mean, it is £15 a bottle and tad expensive, so I don't really know. But for now I have a good couple of wears left.

3. Aztec pendant necklace.
This necklace is my favourite. I am very much a gold girl and when I saw this necklace only half price from Avon with earrings and a ring it had to be bought. I love that it is two necklaces attached together but you can also separate them and wear them on there own. How awesome is that. LITERALLY 3 necklaces in one. So good one Avon, I am literally loving your work.

This was given to me a few weeks ago and oh my it is amazing. I wear a lot of make up and the problem that I was having was that with anything I was using I was being really rough on my eyes to get all the make off and every time I washed my face I was actually hurting myself. But this stuff has changed my life. All you do is squirt some oil into your hands and rub it all over your face, as you are doing it you feel the make up breaking up. (I highly recommend opening your eyes and having a sneek peek in the mirror, if you wear alot of make up you look a treat.) You then add some water and it goes to a milky texture and your just keep rubbing it in,  after that you splash your face and wipe it all off. It really does break down all make up and grease and leaves your face feeling refreshed and clean. It is pretty expensive but has made a massive difference to my skin care routine.
*This was given to me as a gift and at the moment because of how much I love it I think I may definitely be purchasing a new one once finished. But we will see.

5.Salted Caramel Green Tea.
If you are a fan of salted caramel and a fan of green tea then this is for you. I love the smell of this so much, it feels so autumny. If you fancy giving it a try and not a fan of tea like this pop in a sweetner it makes all the difference. But hmmmm, i just love it. As I write this post I have one cooling down next to me to drink.

I picked up the Mac Lipstick up from the airport on my way home from getting engaged in Dublin so as you can imagine this colour reminds me of the delay in the airport and telling all our friends and family the happy news. I love this colour. It is matte and matte isn't always a fan for some people but I don't find it drying or anything. I find it the perfect ever day colour, not to pinky or red. The lipstick it self was from duty free so was around £13 but the lip liner was a more recent purchase and cost me only 99p. It is in the shade 'sage' and is the perfect match with the lipstick. So with the stripes, this colour and the gold necklace I AM LOVING LIFE. I am so glad I stumbled across and found out this beauty of a lipstick recently.

I have only been using this spray for around a week but have already noticed a huge difference in the staying power of my make up. All you do is spray it on your face after your have done your make up. It doesn't feel greasy or leave my face feeling oily but actually leaves me feeling refreshed and ready to go. So far so good.

8. Bright Blue shoes.
Last week I needed some new shoes. I have spent the whole summer wearing the sandles I got married in so it was very much time to pick me up some shoes for autumn. These were from Primark and were only £8 and I just love them. They are comfy, supportive (how old do I sound saying that) and I love the cute detail at the front. So good job Primark I am a total fan and even thinking of getting them in every colour.

I have worn nail varnish every day since I was about 16 and I am normally a bright coloured kind of girl and will normally been seen wearing pinks, reds and colours like that. But when I saw that Avon had this autumny nude colour in I fell in love. I have loved wearing this colour this week, it is so not me but Avon I am impressed. 3 days in and it is still going strong.

Andrew and I are obsessed with House. For those who don't know House is a Dr and him and his team work for a hospital and they have to diagnose people when they are ill. I know, it sounds like Causality doesn't it. But it is so much better. The illnesses that people have are the weirdest things ever. We just watched a episode where a girl found a shipwreck in the sea where the people on board were said to have had small pox. She got ill and they thought she had it. She didnt. She lived but her step dad died. Gutted. Have i sold it to you yet? Any way Andrew and I are on series 7 now and we are nearly at the end. I am not quite sure what to do with my life when this finishes.

Last but by no means least!

This week I am loving the vanilla candle from Ikea costing like £1. We bulk bought these candles for our wedding and we have so many left that are all half burnt. I love that every time I smell this it reminds me of our wedding day. The best.

So I wasn't lying when I said I love a lot of things. I really do.

Enjoy the rest of your day. I am doing nothing. You will find me on the sofa drinking salted caramel tea, watching house and eating my own weight in curly wurlys.

I love Saturday morning breakfast!

If you know Andrew and I you will know that we love breakfast food so much. Cereal, eggs sandwiches, full English, waffles you name it, we love it. If we could have breakfast for every meal of the day we probably would, to be honest I have and it was the best day of my life.

Monday to Friday Andrew is up and out the house before I am even awake so we never get to have breakfast together. So come a Saturday, we do whatever we can to either go out or cook a big hearty breakfast.

Today the cupboards were bare and the weather was so gross we were going no where, but we did have all the ingredients we needed to make pancakes. Now I don’t want to big myself up or make out I am the best, but I can make a mean pancake and after many failed attempts, pancakes in the bin, buying the perfect pan, the dreaded curse of the 1st pancake never working (anyone else with me on that) and trailing the internet for the perfect recipe, we have finally cracked it.

So here it is. Our perfect Saturday morning pancake recipe for two.

What you need:

Ingredients:
110g of flour and a pinch of salt, two eggs, 200ml of milk and 75ml of water.

We picked up this pan from ikea. It is actually an omelette pan but works amazingly for pancakes.
Also, Andrew and I had a disagreement is is a fish slice or a spatula???

What happens next?

*Basically throw it all in and whisk it up.

Grab the frying pan:

You will need some oil at this point for your pan, you could use butter if you want to.

Now, after lots of practice I am a beast at flipping pancakes.
Once both sides are cooked, then we get to have some fun.

One thing i have learnt to avoid the dreaded curse of the 1st pancake never working is to heat the pan with the oil for a good couple of minutes, don't pour in the mixture too soon because that when it all goes wrong.

The fun bit:

Andrew and I are completely different when it comes to this bit. He prefers Nutella and to fold the pancake as you can see and i am more on a sugar and syrup and roll the pancake kind of girl.

But at this point you could go crazy.
Ice cream, fruit, sugar, lemon, chocolate sauce, sweets you name it.
Go wild.

Bon App├ętit.

Love Colleen and Andrew.

A Thursday full of Thanks #1

I remember it so clearly, the noise and face my mum use to make when she gave me something or got me something and I didn’t say thank you. She would hold on to it and look at me in the eyes and do this deep ‘ermmmmmmm’ noise. I knew exactly what that noise meant.

Or there were those times when you were little and someone in your family gave you a gift or a present at Christmas. As a kid you are more bothered about the gift and unwrapping the paper than remembering those magic words, but again my mum would never let me forget, there were so many times I would hear her from across the room saying ‘what do you say?.’

Today I spent a long time in the que in the supermarket waiting to pay for my lunch, there was 4 people in front of me, as each customer came and went and as the cashier swiped through all the food and packed bags for people I found myself saying (to myself) ‘What do you say?’

I feel like we live in a world where we have forgotten the magic words.
Thank you.

Being thankful is a choice. We have to choose to say thank you or choose to be thankful. I never want to be a person who doesn’t appreciate all the things I have and the people in my life.

So a Thursday full of thanks is all about me taking time to share the things, people and situations I am thankful for, so here goes.

My first Thursday full of thanks.

*Day outs with Andrew.
Life as of today is officially back to normal. Routine is back (YAY) I am so thankful that before the crazy routine finally sets in I got to spend the whole weekend with Andrew, nothing makes me more happier than time with him. He makes me laugh, he encourages me and he is just pretty awesome. So a day with him I am beyond thankful for.

*Family Tea
Every Sunday night with out fail mum and Steve have tea on the table ready for us. I love that we live so close to family that we can have tea together. I literally love nothing more than spending time with my favourites and eating yummy food. This week I am thankful for parents who see that Sundays are busy days so instead of us having to make food they do it for us.

*Hero Factory and Mini Heroes Team.
Like I said life is back to normally all the programmes and events that end for the summer at church are back. But for them to get back to normal many people have to put in lots of hours of hard work. So I am thankful for the incredible kid’s team, for their time, their prayers and all their hard work. You all make my life so much easier.
Ephesians 5 vs 20 'Giving thanks always and for everything.'

So what are you thankful for, i would love to know.

This is it. For real this time.

Welcome to my space of internet.

Man I have started and re started this blog so many times.

This has been something I have wanted to do for so long but the world of blogs is huge and well I got seriously overwhelmed and thought to myself..
‘Stuff this Colleen, do you really think people care about what you have to say.’
So four times, that’s right four times, I have started and deleted this blog, I have changed the name, changed the design, changed what I am going to talk about and now I am back here again writing an opening post.

Since January 2013 I have had the same 14 followers, wow you guys, I bet you are all seriously fed up with all these changes aren’t you. But this is it. This is for real now. I am here and I am here to stay. I bet you are thrilled (ha!)

So welcome to Leeny Loves, let me explain what this is all about.

I love a lot of things and there are times I find myself wanting to share these things but not knowing how and where. So here we are in my little space of internet a place to share all the things I love, this could be beauty, fashion, food, life, work, tv and so on but a place to share all the things I am loving.

So who is Leeny, here’s abit about me.

My name is Leeny (thats me over there <<<< ) and I am a twenty something girl who lives in the heart of the Yorkshire dales. I live in the cutest house with my very handsome husband Andrew. I am a Christian and work for a church as a children’s worker and this is something I love so much so expect a few posts about that. I love clothes, not a huge fan on shoes (shock), I am more of flipflop girl, I love make up and all things beauty, recently I have a new found love for interiors and making my house look pretty. Nothing makes me more happier than a night on the sofa with the fire on eating Betty Crocker cookies and watching Netflix. So really just your normal girl living what I would say is life to the full.

So with that being said and done.

Welcome to Leeny Loves.

*Please note i have no idea how this is all going to work, but stick around i am sure it will be fun to see me work it all out.
